Since COVID, there hasn’t been many beer adventures to write about. Recently I traveled to Birmingham on a business trip with a work colleague for a week. While we were there we were able to do a few beer related activities with the help of a new friend.
We first got into town and went to straight to Hop City Beer & Wine. A great place to grab a pint or pick up some beer to take home. A very nice selection. I made a couple of mix and match six packs and headed to the hotel. We checked in at the downtown Hampton Inn on Sunday. A nice hotel in uptown with a great and friendly staff. Plus, an added benefit of being close enough to a few restaurants that we could walk to.
We walked down to Todd English P.U.B. , a great place by the way, and waited for our new friend, Ty, to pick us up. After having a couple of pints, we headed out to our first stop at Birmingham District Brewing. A really cool brewery for sure. I had a flight with Lost at Sea Black IPA being my favorite. I love a good Black IPA. I wish breweries made more of them.
After finishing our beers we moved on to Ferus on 41st were we finished the evening with another flight and a burger.
The pilsner was my favorite. At this point I was so hungry that I forgot to take a picture of my food. It was good though. We then went back to the hotel and ended a great night of beers, food, and friends.
Mid week we able to walk to The Southern Kitchen & Bar for supper and beer. It’s right across the street from Protective Stadium. I had a pesto chicken club with stone ground gouda grits and an Avondale A-OK IPA to wash it down. Both were delicious!
Our final night in Birmingham, our new friend Ty picked us up and took us to Cahaba Brewing. What a great place inside and out! Family friendly with plenty of activities for everyone. With pinball machines and Skee-Ball! They even make their own spirits. This place was so nice that I had to have two flights. The winners for me were their Morchata Milk Stout and the Alien Juice Milkshake IPA.
We were about to grab a bite from the food truck that was there but Ty wanted to take us to The Filling Station to eat. And I’m glad he did. An old gas station turned into a restaurant. I had a calzone and my colleague had the grilled chicken pasta. Both were excellent. It was getting late so we headed back to the hotel. Although this wasn’t a vacation getaway, we sure did make the most of it and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. I look forward to returning to Birmingham some day to see more of what this great city has to offer. Until then, Cheers!
