Catherine and I recently dropped the kids off with their grandparents for the week. That means MOM AND DAD TIME! We met Guy in Savannah at the halfway point to drop off the kids and knew that we were near Ridgeland and Bluffton, SC. Ridgeland just happens to be home to River Dog Brewing. We decided to do a little research and discovered that the Bluffton area has much to offer.
First we headed to River Dog Brewing. It is tucked away in a business park as many breweries are. Shea and Austin were working that afternoon. We enjoyed their conversation as well as their knowledge of the brewery. We each ordered a flight and shared a Margherita Pizza. It was delicious! As always we like to point out our favorites. They were Altered State Red Ale, Perkolatte Milk Stout, and their Imperial Perkolatte Stout. We enjoyed the place thoroughly.
After a swim at the hotel we decided to head to Southern Barrel Brewing. As we were driving down the road, Southern Barrel was an inviting site. We sat at the bar and enjoyed Hodge’s ( the bartenders) knowledge as well as his wit. We both ordered a flight and enjoyed their beer. We particularly enjoyed Full of Hoptions Pale Ale.
We knew it was was time to eat and we had already chosen Fat Pattie’s as our dinner spot. As soon as we drove up we knew this was going to be right up our alley. We made our way to the bar and we both ordered a flight. Catherine ordered Sticky Asian wings which she thought were among some of the best wings she has ever had. I, as usual, ordered a black bean burger on a whole wheat bun with a couple of toppings. Man was I happy! It came with rosemary sea salt fries that were superb. After having a great meal & a great time we headed back to the hotel and called it a night.
Earlier we had ask Shea & Austin about local places to eat. He told us Cahill’s was a stand out in Bluffton and that they have an outstanding breakfast. It is a farm to table restaurant which Catherine and I love. We woke up and packed our bags and headed to Cahill’s. We got there right as they opened. We both had an amazing cup of coffee and ordered after studying the menu for a very long time. Everything looked so good. Catherine ordered Butcher’s Benedict and I ordered the El Cabron burrito. WOW! We couldn’t have been more impressed. I left there feeling absolutely stuffed since I ate mine as well as finishing Catherine’s. When we were done, Catherine shopped in their store and bought a couple of beautiful tomatoes to bring back home. We looked over their great setup outside and started the drive back home.
Visiting Bluffton was a first for us but it definitely will not be our last. We have decided the kids will come next time. We highly recommend this quiet little get away for anyone looking for great people & great food and drinks. Until next time.
Cheers!
Jason & Catherine
