Truly one of the best things about living near the mountains is fall. The beauty of the foliage every year is a treat. So we packed up the family and headed to Brevard, NC for some hiking and of course a few other activities. Our first stop was a late lunch at The Square Root. While we waited on our food, Catherine enjoyed a Mimosa and Guy and I both enjoyed an IPA from Brevard Brewing Company. Nicely done, I might add, from a brewery that normally excels in lagers. Our food arrived and we couldn’t have asked for a better meal. Everything was outstanding. The burgers were fantastic & the brunch items were delicious, too. This will be on a definite stop the next time we visit.
After we finished lunch we wanted to stop and pick up some local beer to bring home. I did a little research and couldn’t find much. What we did find was Food Matters Market, a local health food store, and we were glad we did. They had a nice selection to choose from. It was a pleasant surprise.
Before going onto the hiking trails, we decided to stop in at Oskar Blues Brewery and have one for the hike. Normally I would do a flight but I was still full from lunch. This was a great and eclectic place. Catherine and Guy had their IPA, which I love, but I wanted to try their collaboration beer. It was called Hoptub Bath Machine, a Pale Ale that was brewed with Fairhope Brewing Company, Good People Brewing Company, Cahaba Brewing Company, and Straight to Ale Brewing, which are all Alabama breweries. It was very tasty. Wish I could get it on a regular basis.
After finishing up at the brewery we headed to DuPont State Forest, which is just a short drive from Brevard, to hike to the waterfalls that are there. There are several to choose from. We hiked up to Triple Falls & High Falls. The other waterfalls will have to wait for our next visit. What a great way to see the foliage as well as to burn a few calories. The views were splendid. Pictures can’t do them justice. If you live near or just traveling through put Brevard, NC on your radar. It’s a small town with a lot to offer. A great place to visit.
Cheers!
Jason
