Brewvival has become one of the premier craft beer festivals in the southeast. This is the third year in a row I have had the privilege in being able to attend. After a change of plans earlier in the week, we headed down to North Charleston for a weekend getaway.
We checked into the hotel and headed to Sesame Burger & Beer for a bite, which is a must when in North Charleston. While enjoying my black bean burger, I also rather enjoyed a Snafu Brewing Shadow of Death Imperial Stout. It was a super tasty offering from a new brewery there in North Charleston. After stuffing ourselves, we headed back to the hotel for an early evening since Brewvival would soon be near.
You couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather for the festival. High’s in the upper 70’s with no rain. I was ready to enjoy. This was the second year in a row that the beer list was not published. Normally I like to have a game plan going in so I know what to try. However, I must admit that there is a certain anticipation of finding out at the last minute who would be there. After being pleasantly surprised last year, I wasn’t worried the offerings would be superb. And I was right! Of course there were too many beers for me to try but the winners for me were; Ocelot Brewing Mi Corazon IPA and their Uber Home Double IPA. Fullsteam Brewing Steak Knives Imperial Stout, Fonta Flora Brewing Jitterbug American Wild Ale, Creature Comforts Brewing Transmission Saison, Cigar City Brewing Bourbon Barrel Marshal Zhukov’s Imperial Stout, Central Waters Brewing The Promise Strong Ale, Blackberry Farm Brewing Alban Farmhouse Red Flanders, Coppertail Brewing Florida Jawn: Cara Flora Berliner Weisse, Sante Adairius Rustic Ales West Ashley Saison, Pisgah Brewing Red Devil Blonde, Birds Fly South Joos Raspberry Sour, and Almanac Beer Co. Coffee Barbary Coast Imperial Stout.
It was another great festival with so many great offerings from some real great breweries. It was time to get some grub on so we went to EVO (Extra Virgin Oven) Pizzeria & Bakery. Another place I recommend when in North Charleston. I enjoyed the pizza and atmosphere, along with a Full Spectrum Brewing Shamrock Stout. I was over the day and we headed back to the hotel.
That morning we decided to stop at The Junction Kitchen & Provisions for breakfast, before heading back home. It was quite the busy place. And after eating we understood why. Although they have craft beer, I was more than happy with my coffee and water. The place had such a great vibe to it. We definitely will be trying that place again. All good things must come to an end but it’s all good when you get back to the comforts of home. Until next time.
Cheers!
Jason
