Well it has been quite awhile since the family packed up and headed to the beach for vacation. And it was long overdue. We set sail for Crescent Beach, which is halfway between St. Augustine and Palm Coast, Florida. We looked forward to relaxing for the week and seeing as much as we could while we were there.
Once we arrived I went I went t to the grocery store for supplies. Now I was unable to locate any craft beer specialty stores near to where we were staying, but the grocery stores Publix and Winn Dixie provided a decent selection. I like a store were I can get a mix and match though.
That Sunday was Father’s Day so they wanted wanted to know what I wanted to do. Of course I said go to a local brewery! We set off to St. Augustine and ended up at Ancient City Brewing. The city was amazing in all the old Spanish built structures. Quite the city for walking around. I grabbed a flight as we watched the women’s World Cup match. I really enjoyed the Castillo Coconut Porter. They didn’t serve food there so we walked down the street for lunch at One Twenty Three Burger House. I had a Galleons Golden Ale from Ancient City and a burger with spinach and feta that was awesome! You could tell this was a locals favorite and we saw why. We definitely recommend this place.
For the week. we fell into a routine. Enjoy the pool/beach in the morning then out for lunch and sight seeing. We headed back to St. Augustine the next day for a late lunch at O’Steen’s. We were told we had to eat here at least once. This was a locals favorite. It was a small mom and pop restaurant that has been here forever. We had to wait 30 minutes before they called our name. You might as well get that in your mind because everyone waits to eat here. They don’t sell beer here but that was ok. Two words…….. fried shrimp. The fried shrimp platter was delish. I had had it with field peas and green beans. The family had the shrimp as well. You might as well put this place down when visiting St. Augustine. The rain kept us from any outdoor activities but I finally found a place to pick up some local craft beer. Broudy’s was the local area liquor store but it sold craft beer and I also could get me a mix and match six pack.
The next two days included Viola’s for lunch where I had a Coppertail Night Swim Porter and Intuition I-10 IPA paired with bourbon glazed chicken. The beer was better than the food I must say. The following day was the South Beach Grill. It was right on the beach front were we enjoyed a great view and great lunch. I had a black bean chicken wrap with a Swamp Head Stump Knocker Pale Ale and a First Magnitude 72 Pale Ale. After lunch we headed back to St. Augustine to visit the Alligator Farm. This place was great! It is more of a small zoo with several different animals and plenty of alligators. A fun place for the entire family.
The last day we wanted to check out Palm Coast. We found Moonrise Brewing which was located in a European style village. A really neat place that had numerous games, including over 5,000 video games, so the kids could enjoy while I had a flight. I really liked their Lunadraconis Sour. They had a nice looking menu but the kids wanted something that was not on their menu. So we left and found a place called Houligan’s Sports Grille. Everyone enjoyed their wings and a burger while I had a french dip sandwich along with a Cigar City Jai Alai IPA that was really good.
And so the week comes to an end and we head home. We enjoyed ourselves and the area. We would come back again and recommend the area for anyone else. Until next time.
Cheers!
