We are fortunate to live so close to the mountains. It’s a hop, skip, and a jump for us to get in the car and go. One Saturday we did just that. With the kids in tow we went to Hendersonville. We go up quite frequently in the fall but not usually in the winter. After some shopping we headed to Papa’s & Beer for lunch. It is by far one of the best locations. The food is always fresh and delicious. The Burrito Senora Light is fabulous! And the bean dip is the bomb! A favorite of ours when we are up that way.
After a great lunch we headed over to Southern Appalachian Brewery. We had never been and were dying to try it- had heard lots of good things. When we arrived it was just opening and we noticed a food truck setting up shop. Outside in the front of the brewery is a large area where there is plenty of room for outdoor activities when the weather is warmer. When we opened the door we were greeted by a black lab named George. We always like a dog friendly brewery. While the kids were entertaining George, or vice versa, Catherine and I ordered a flight of all the offerings they had on tap. We really enjoyed their Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Stout and IPA. The IPA is one of the best if not the best floral IPA I’ve had to date.
It was apparent that this was a great community meeting place. Several locals came in and grabbed a pint and left (with their pooches in tow). It was also completely kid and baby friendly. A couple was there with a young baby and they were having a great time. This was a great spot to stop in with the family and enjoy some good beer. We will be making a return trip up. And who knows? We might even bring the dogs with us.
After we left, we made a stop at the Ingles in Flat Rock. I know what you are thinking. Why would they mention a stop at a grocery store? Well the reason is that this Ingles might have the largest & best beer selection I have ever seen in a grocery store. A wall to wall beer selection. It has great variety and a decent mix and match selection. Also lots of local beers. A trip to Hendersonville always includes a stop here and we are never disappointed. It has so much more of a selection than I can get at home. We left with a full cooler and headed back home. If ya’ll are lucky enough to live within a short drive to Hendersonville it is well worth the trip.
Cheers!
Jason
