Wow! Hub City came together to put on one hellava beer festival. This was the inaugural event for Spartanburg and its craft beer scene and it was done quite well. There was a great crowd for the event and it had people of all ages (kids included) in attendance. They had different bands playing throughout the event and had local food vendors as well. I love how they had the seating area set up for you to either sit and eat or listen to the bands on hay stacks. There were approximately 25 breweries from South and North Carolina there. They also had attendees vote on what they thought was the best brewery at the festival (I’ll let you know the winner in a minute).
I thought every brewery that came brought great craft beer. Here were the winners for me; Oskar Blues Death by Coconut Porter, Birds Fly South The Yoder Belgian IPA, Swamp Rabbit Black Plaque Black Lager, RJ Rockers Whiskey Barrel Aged Good Boy Stout and their Palmetto Trail Pale Ale, Fireforge Coco L’ Orange Stout, Loose Reed’s Spice Three Threads Porter and their Grapefruit Napoleon Complex Berliner Weisse, and last but not least Ciclops Ta Si Daeng Cider and their Dead Men T.N.T Stout. All of these were great. The winner of the attendee’s favorite was Ciclops Cyderi and Brewery and I totally agree.
After the festival was over we decided to stop in at the Hub City Tap House which is the home of Ciclops Cyderi and Brewery. This a great place to grab a brew from them or a number of other breweries that they have on tap. And don’t forget to take some beer home with you as they also sell bottle and can beer from other breweries.
This was a great event and the organizers need to be thanked repeatedly. We have been to lots of beer festivals across the South and this one will no doubt rival the others in the region.
Cheers!
