Spartanburg…………. Our “home” town. It would just be wrong not to write about it. Now Spartanburg might not be a well known craft beer city but it sure is headed in the right direction. Since we moved here 14 years ago we have seen a positive change. So let’s start out with the place to grab a great meal along with a nice beer selection. Two restaurants stand out in particular. Cribbs Kitchen and Delaney’s Irish Pub. Cribbs Kitchen sits right next door to RJ Rockers Brewing Company and has the majority of their beers on tap. If you plan on eating here might we suggest the Spring Street sandwich. It is outstanding. There are so many incredible things on the menu but it is hard to stray away from the Spring Street.
Delaney’s Irish Pub is an all around great place not only for food but for beer. It has 32 taps plus bottles to choose from. You could pick anything from the menu and not be disappointed. The fish and chips seem to be a local favorite although I really like the meatloaf or steak slider. This is the kids favorite restaurant as well. They enjoy throwing darts while waiting for their food.
If you don’t feel like eating yet then nothing would be better than to grab a pint or a flight at the Growler Haus. It has 24 rotating taps making sure always to have a local South Carolina beer on tap. It has such a great laid back feel. It too has a kid friendly daytime atmosphere. It is not uncommon to see three different families in there at one time. They don’t sell food but you are welcome to bring some in with you. Let’s not forget to mention the great and helpful staff.
On to RJ Rockers Brewing Company. It is located downtown which is walking distance from all of these establishments. They hold tour and tastes on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We normally bring the kids on Saturday. We love Mark, Taylor, and the guys. Such nice people make the beer even better. We love the Rockhopper Double IPA, Brown Eyed Squirrel Brown Ale, and Good Boy Stout. If you come during the week you might be welcomed by Stout the black lab.
Of course you will need to take some beer back with you. The one place that sticks out is the Hot Spot. Hot Spot is a convenience store downtown. When you walk inside there is a mix and match station at the front of the store and a walk in cooler with nothing but craft beer inside. You will not be disappointed.
Watch for Hub City Tap House, which will be the home of Ciclops Cyderi and Brewery, to open sometime this summer. Hub City is on the verge of becoming a great destination city with a lot to offer. It is nice to have a front row seat to watch it grow. As always support your local brewery!
Cheers!
