The family and I have not had the opportunity to travel much this year, so when it was time to head to the mountains for a long weekend we were all ready to go. We headed out for the 3 hour drive to Murphy, NC where we had rented a cabin at the Murphy/Peace Valley KOA. I must say it was just what the doctor had ordered. Our cabin was just feet from the Valley River where my son and I enjoyed fishing. The rest of the family waited for us to enjoy the pool, it too just a few yards from our cabin. Even our Dachshunds loved the dog park! This was a great place to enjoy oneself. We would definitely go back.
I always like to have a plan whenever we go somewhere. I had to do a little bit more research for this trip because Murphy is a rural area. That’s not a problem though because there are hidden gems everywhere. After I dropped the family off I went on a beer run. I wasn’t able to find a bottle shop in town, so I do what I always do when I need some good craft beer with a good variety. I went to the Ingle’s grocery store. I was able to purchase several local North Carolina brews to take back to the cabin to enjoy.
I didn’t want to leave the campground unless I had to. Well, I had too. But the reason was to go to Valley River Brewery in Murphy for lunch, so the reason was legit in my book. The naked chicken wings were very tasty! I of course enjoyed a flight with the food. The stand outs for me were the Arien Blonde and the Hangin Dog Double IPA. It was a neat little place for a neat little town. After lunch we headed back to the campground and didn’t leave it until we were ready to return home.
The morning came when it was time to head back home. Even though we all hated to leave, we all looked forward to returning to our own beds at home. After some discussion, we decided to go a different route back home. We went through north Georgia and stopped in for some lunch at Universal Joint in Clayton, Georgia. This was a hidden gem as well. This colorful dog friendly spot was awesome. We sat outside and the entire family ordered burgers. We were glad we did. Everyone enjoyed theirs thoroughly and I washed mine down with a tasty local IPA.
After we were done with lunch, we got back on the road home. This trip was a nice little getaway and hope to return one day. Until our next next beer adventure.
Cheers!
Jason
