We woke up Saturday to an overcast day with high rain chances. That wasn’t enough to stop us from heading up to Tryon, NC for their beer festival. When we arrived we really liked how they had things set up. This is the festivals fourth year but we had never been before but had heard great things about it. Tryon is one of my favorite places to visit. It’s an eclectic little town with really nice people (it’s also known for being horse country). We just hoped the rain would hold off for as long as possible so we could enjoy the day. They did have tents set up if a storm did come along. Under the tents were tables and heaters, too. Very nice set-up for sure!
The smells coming from all around were great. Tempting as they were, we decided to wait awhile before eating. They had a German polka band playing as we sampled several beers. After we spent some time tasting we decided it was time to eat. Catherine enjoyed a slice of pizza slice from Buck’s Pizza and I enjoyed pulled pork from Mountain View BBQ. I wouldn’t mind having that again. They also had German food available as well.
We sampled beers from around the Southeast and more. Several were very good, but as always we like to point out the winners for us. They were Mother Earth Brewing Dark Cloud Münich Dunkel, Terrapin Beer Company Moo-Hoo Chocolate Milk Stout, Thomas Creek Brewery Trifecta IPA, Asheville Brewing Company Ninja Bread Man Porter, and Double Barley Brewing Steak Cake Stout and their Thrilla’ in Vanilla Porter. We decided that we had enough for the day and head back home. Although we didn’t stop in before we left, my normal reason to come to Tryon is to go to La Bouteille. This is a small beer and wine store with an extremely nice selection of mix and match varieties. A must stop before you leave Tryon.
This was our first visit to the Tryon Beer Fest but surely not the last. It was also our last festival for the year. We will take the winter off until our next festival when we will make our return to Charleston for Brewvival!
Cheers,
Jason
